Kerry: The US expects deepening partnership with Indonesia under Jokowi

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - US Secretary of State John F Kerry send his congratulation to Joko Widodo or Jokowi, after the later was declared as the winner of 2014 presidential election by General Elections Commisssion (KPU) on Tuesday evening. he said the US expected deepen partnership with Indonesia in the future. 

"I warmly congratulate Indonesia’s president-elect Joko Widodo," Kerry said in a written statement sent by US Embassy in Jakarta to Republika, Wednesday. "The people of Indonesia united once again to show their commitment to democracy through free and fair elections."

Kerry said that as the world’s second and third largest democracies, the United States and Indonesia set an example for the world. Both countries share many common values, including respect for human rights and the rule of law. The two nations, he added, had worked hard to build the US-Indonesia Comprehensive Partnership, which had strengthened their bilateral relationship so both could jointly address common regional and global challenges. 

 "The United States looks forward to working with President-elect Widodo as we deepen our partnership, promote our shared objectives globally, and expand people-to-people ties between our nations," Kerry stated.
