Sharia Economics researcher Sekolah Tinggi Ekonomi Islam SEBI, Azis Setiawan, assessed the need for further elaboration of ideas related to sharia economics from the candidates.

Moreover, the vision and mission documents of the candidate pairs also touch on sharia economics. "In the vision and mission document, we actually find sharia economic concerns, although to varying degrees. But they need further and deeper elaboration in the presidential election debate," Azis said, Thursday (21/12/2023).

On his perspective, elaborating sharia economic issues on the presidential election debate and campaign, people can find out how committed the candidates are to sharia economics and finance. Because, even though it is stated in the vision and mission document, direct commitment from the candidates are needed to convince people.

"Were these just ideas from the team or is it genuine from the candidate's wishes as well? So you can be sure whether the policy direction was just a formal document or a serious policy for the future that the candidates really wanted to implement," he added.

Aziz believed that the elaboration of the presidential and vice presidential candidates regarding sharia economics and finance will also attract the Muslim voters segment. This was because sharia economics and finance were currently important for Muslim communities. Apart from that, sharia economics also has important advantages to provide benefits for Indonesia in global competition.

Moreover, as the largest Muslim country with abundant resources, it should be optimized so that the benefits obtained in the global halal chain and global sharia finance were beneficial for the national economy. For global halal production, halal tourism, Muslim fashion and cosmetics, and global sharia investment, Indonesia's position can be optimized so that it will be of great benefit to improving the national economy, employment and welfare.

Indonesia will conducted presidential election on February 14, 2024. There were three candidates in this election. Candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan and Muhamin Iskandar, number 2 Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, and the last was Ganjar Pranowo and Mahfud MD.
