REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Some 20 thousand workers plan to stage a rally outside the State Palace on Saturday to lodge three demands.

"(The demands are) first, stop layoffs; second, revoke government regulation number 78 of 2015; and third, return the negotiating rights of labor unions with the government," President of the Confederation of Indonesian Labor Union (KSPI) Said Iqbal said at a press briefing here Saturday.

The KSPI will also stage similar rallies in 12 other major cities including Medan, Surabaya, Batam, and Makassar, he said.

The issuance of the government regulation number 78 of 2015 reflected the government's fear of capital flight, he said.

"The government is afraid of capital flight due to high wages. But what happens today is that investors leave (the country) due to the low purchasing power of the people, as stated by the leadership of PT Toshiba Indonesia," he said.
