REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, NUNUKAN -- Malaysia has deported 141 Indonesian migrant workers (TKIs) who had worked illegally in the Malaysian state of Sabah.
"The illegal TKIs were deported through the Nunukan District, North Kalimantan, on Thursday night," Head of Immigration Checkpoint of the Tunon International Port Nasution stated here on Friday.
The illegal TKIs hailed from several regions in Tawau and Sandakan and were deported after serving months of prison term. The TKIs were jailed for committing acts, such as immigration violation, drug offenses, and other crimes.
Of the 141 TKIs, 111 are men and 30 are women. They arrived in Nunukan aboard the KM Francis Ekspres ship.
In the meantime, the Australian government, late last month, had deported four Indonesian fishermen hailing from Rote Island in East Nusa Tenggara.
Boarding an aircraft of the national flag carrier Garuda Indonesia, the four deported fishermen arrived at the El Tari International Airport on May 31.
"They were among the 10 Indonesian fishermen detained by the Australian maritime authority in January 2016 for illegal fishing," East Nusa Tenggara Office of Marine and Fisheries Chief for Marine Resources Supervision Saleh Goro remarked.
Goro revealed there were 10 fishermen, and their deportation process was being carried out in phases since May 20, adding that the four were the last to be deported on May 31.
