REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM - Vice President Boediono has called on Indonesians to maintain peace and order prior to and during the July 9 presidential election.

"People should help maintain peace, security, and order during the presidential election," the vice president said when closing the 25th National Quran Recital Competition on Friday.

He noted that different opinions during the election campaigns were natural, in the absence of slanders and pointing fingers at each other. The National Quran Reading Competition was organized during the run-up to the presidential election and, therefore, the vice president invited the participants and others in the community to turn the elections into an opportunity to express their hopes for democracy.

"Let us use our conscience to vote for the president," Boediono said. "Indonesia is a pluralist country, but all community members have to unite and maintain peace and security during the election."

Indonesia is going to hold presidential election on July 9 which is being contested by Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa and Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla.
