REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice President Jusuf Kalla has been reelected as Chairman of Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) through voting process.

He will serve from 2014 to 2019 after defeating Siti Hediyati or known as Titiek Soeharto in the 20th PMI National Summit in Jakarta. Kalla won 257 out of 418 votes, while Titiek only got 170 votes.

"I hope to win by acclamation," Kalla said after the summit on Thursday, December 18.

The vice president said that he was glad to continue doing humanitarian tasks. Red Cross, he said, faced several challenges, such as population and health issues.

"We will make serious efforts to supply blood bags to meet the national demand," he said.
