President Prabowo Instructs Full Mobilization to Handle Disasters in Sumatra

Extreme weather phenomenon triggered by tropical cyclone causes disaster in Sumatra.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian President General (Purn) Prabowo Subianto ordered the acceleration of emergency response from the first day of the natural disaster in three provinces, namely Aceh, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar). The government ensures that all elements move quickly to ensure the safety of citizens from natural disasters.

According to the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, disasters in a number of areas on Sumatra Island are due to extreme weather phenomena. Therefore, the government sent aid for the umpteenth time through the airstrip using Boeing Super Hercules and Airbus A400 aircraft.

“So since the first day of the disaster, Mr. President has ordered us BNPB Team to move directly with the help of the TNI-Police, the local government, and for the emergency response, refugee tents continue to provide food for all daily necessities,” Pratikno told the media crew at Lanud Halim Perdanakusuma Base Ops, East Jakarta, Friday (28/11/2025).

Pratikno said that the government stressed the importance of priority equipment to support the efficiency of emergency response operations. Therefore, the kind of relief goods sent at the behest of President Prabowo, are what people desperately need.

“Earlier it was conveyed by Mr. Seskab, communication tools, rubber boats, then electric generators, that is also indispensable for making these emergency response works more efficient. The PU (Public Works) team is also moving, because some of the point locations were broken off, starting from landslides, then blocked roads, etc., it has also moved,” Pratikno said.

In addition, Pratikno said, the extreme weather phenomenon triggered by the late tropical cyclone triggered torrential rains that caused flooding and landslides. The government has activated weather modification operations to reduce the potential for rain on the mainland.

“We need to know, this is a very powerful tropical cyclone, but according to BMKG it has started to decline, therefore we are also conducting weather modification operations. It has begun to be able to be flown to reduce rainfall on land, so that later the precipitation we bring to the oceans. It also carried out these kinds of efforts,” Pratikno said.
