Police raid a fake smartphone warehouse in Batam

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -  Criminal Investigation Directorate of Riau Islands Police raided a fake smartphone warehouse imported from China with a value of 655 million IDR in Batam. Riau Police found many counterfeit products of Samsung, such as Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab, Galaxy Grand, Galaxy Duos and Galaxy S, costing about 1-1.5 million IDR per unit compared to 4 million IDR per unit of original product.

"We raided the warehouse on Saturday. We have questioned eight witnesses and declared KP -the warehouse owner- as a suspect," Head of Sub-Criminal Investigation Division of Riau Islands Police, Amazona Pelanomia, said on Tuesday.

Police also confiscated 507 phone boxes, 270 anti-scratch coating for mobile phones, battery, charger, also backup battery. Pelanomia said the fake products were very similar to its original products.

"Consumer needs to check first when buying the product," he added.

The suspect violated Law No. 32 Article 50 on Consumer Protection. Police will continue to develop this case.
