REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo, or known as Jokowi, plans to renegotiate with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and World Bank over loan agreements and loan ceiling on financing Jakarta's mass rapid transportation (MRT) project.

JICA is committed to provide soft loan worth 120 billion yen or equal to 15 trillion IDR for the project. Jokowi hopes that JICA shorten the contract assessment for MRT project.

"Three months are too long. I'd rather say no," Jokowi said on Wednesday.

He said that the complicated requirements could slow down the project. If JICA disagrees with Jokowi's demands, he will cancel the agreement.

He also demands a neutral party to advise and supervise the project. "Japan is involved in providing the loan, design and construction. Then who will monitor the project? I want a neutral party involved in this project," he said.

Jokowi is optimistic that Jakarta can renegotiate with JICA and World Bank. He said that an agreement must accommodate the demands of both parties. Jokowi earlier asked Singapore and Shanghai to become the advisers of the project as Indonesia lacked of experiences in the matter.
