REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI noted that 758,791 passengers have left Jakarta through the stations of the Operasi Area 1 (Daop 1) area since the start of the 2025 Lebaran Transit period on March 21 to April 6, 2025 at 24.00 pm. In the same period, 514,823 passengers were recorded as having returned to Jakarta using the train service.

“This data shows that the reverse flow to Jakarta will continue, given that the number of returning passengers is still less than those who have departed,” KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba said in a written statement in Jakarta, Monday (7/4/2025).

Nevertheless, KAI noted passenger movements during this year's backflow unfolded relatively evenly and were not concentrated on one or two specific days alone. Anne called this condition independent of the Work From Anywhere (WFA) policy that the government put in place until April 8, 2025.

“This policy allows people to return to Jakarta gradually and without haste, so that the backflow density can be better managed,” added Anne.

Anne said the trend of passenger arrivals to Jakarta by rail began to show a significant increase since April 2, 2025. On that date, 41,727 passengers arrived at various Daop 1 stations in Jakarta.

“That figure increased to 49,499 passengers on April 3, and continued to rise to 52,564 on April 4,” Anne continued.

Anne said peak arrivals occurred on April 5 and April 6, 2025, with 52,651 and 52,699 passengers, respectively. Based on provisional ticket sales figures up to this morning, it is estimated that there will still be 51,452 passengers coming to Jakarta on April 7.

“This keeps the volume of arrivals high even though the predicted peak backflow has passed,” Anne added.

Meanwhile, on April 6, 2025, the number of passengers departing from Jakarta was still quite high, namely 38,109 people. This shows that although some people have started to return to Jakarta, there is still considerable mobility outside the city.

“If we compare it with previous years, the reverse flow this time is much more restrained. There was no big surge in one day, and passengers were spread evenly over several days,” Anne said.
