Ministry to transform Natuna as a new travel destination

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Tourism, Arief Yahya will trasform Natuna and surrounding area as a new tourist destination.

"Under the direction of the President, Natuna will be used as a tourism destination," he said in Jakarta, Thursday (23/6) after a working visit of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) to Natuna on June 23, 2016.

Arief stated that they began to close its ranks and consolidate to develop Natuna and surrounding areas as a new tourist destination.

"I have asked the Head of Tourism Kepri Guntur Sakti to report the results of President's visit to Deputy Minister of Tourism’s Destination Development for synergies," he said.

Arief added Natuna and its surroundings as the outer islands of the Homeland have potential especially in terms of maritime travel. Therefore, it plans to develop Natuna maritime destination with more adequate infrastructure supported.

Earlier, President Jokowi has instructed the acceleration of development in Natuna as one of the foremost islands in Indonesia. Therefore, the development of infrastructure to improve connectivity and economic development such as the fishing industry, gas, and marine tourism is urgently needed.

The President also ordered that the patrol and guard of Natuna region should be improved.
