REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government has condemned the bomb and terror attacks in El-Arish, North Sinai, Egypt, which killed at least 235 people and wounded hundred others, Friday.
"The Indonesian government expressed its deep condolences and sympathy to the victims and prayed for the immediate recovery of the wounded," Indonesian foreign ministry said in a written statement.
Until now, no Indonesian citizen has been reported to be a victim in the incident.
An improvised explosive device (IED) was exploded by an unknown terrorist group beside the Ar-Raudhah mosque in Bir El-Abd, El-Arish, North Sinsi, in the midst of Friday prayer.
The group was also reported to have opened fire at the congregation members after the blast.
Indonesian ambassador to Egypt, Helmy Fauzi, said no Indonesian citizen lived in El-Arish.
The embassy has coordinated with local security authorities and continued to monitor the development.
He called on citizens in Egypt to be alert and avoid areas vulnerable to terror attacks.
The Egyptian government has announced three days of mourning in honor of the victims.
