REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The 13th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, KH Ma'ruf Amin, highlighted the continued occurrence of cases of violence in a number of boarding schools, especially those that do not have clear licensing. According to him, the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Ministry of Religious Affairs) needs to establish a special agency to conduct supervision of boarding schools so that the practice does not continue to repeat.
“The Masyayikh Assembly has been formed for the boarding school. But it's more on improving quality. Well we expect there to be some kind of agency that conducts surveillance,” Kiai Ma'ruf said when he met after attending the Raker 'National Movement Ayo Mondok' at Asshiddiqiyah Pesantren, Jakarta, Wednesday (17/9/2025).
He stressed that this surveillance agency is needed so that the government can detect early boarding schools that have the potential to practice violence. That way, prevention can be done before the problem gets bigger.
“So that there is a supervisory agency that monitors these boarding schools, let there be no such thing (violence). If the Masyayikh Assembly is then only the gong, but there must be an institution that supervises,” he said.
Kiai Ma'ruf hopes that the proposal for the establishment of a supervisory agency can be acted upon soon by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “So that before it happens nothing has been detected,” he said.
