REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Bambang Soesatyo "Bamsoet" asked millennial generation to use their right to vote in 2018 regional elections and 2019 presidential election. He said the votes of young generation have major role in determining the progress of the nation.

"Young generation should not be golput (non-voters). They must rise up and dare to speak up to choose the best leaders for the nations progress," said Bamsoet in a written statement received by Republika.co.id on Wednesday (April 18).

Bamsoet said about 14 million young people would be eligible to vote for their first time in 2019 presidential election. The number was about 7.4 percent of the total voters of 196,5 million people.

He also asked the students in universities to conduct study related to implementation of direct regional elections. The study could examine whether direct regional elections is more beneficial or harmful for Indonesian people.

"We shouldn't be afraid and embarrassed to improve the existing system," Bamsoet added.
