KUA needs to improve insights to prevent LGBT: Minister

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Religious Affairs, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin asked religious leaders and figures not to distance themselves to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people. He urged religious leaders and figures to help LGBT people to realize that their sexual behaviour is deviant. "Religions prohibit same-sex sexual behaviour," Lukman explained.

Lukman said, LGBT people must be guided and directed to the right path and brought around them that the behaviour is wrong and deviate from the provision of religion. "Same-sex relationship is totally wrong and violate the provision of religion, so it should be avoided," said Lukman when inaugurating 32 Wedding Halls and Manasik Hajj buildings in 17 districts / municipalities of Central Java Province on Thursday (January 25).

Lukman asked Religious Affairs office (KUA) to improve the quality of public services. The revitalisation has been going on since last few years, one of the goals is to prevent LGBT.

"Marriage counselling is needed to the couples who will marry and it's important because the national resilience is highly dependent on family resilience," Lukman explained.

The statement of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) Chairman Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhasan) on the existence of five House factions that supported LGBT has made the people awake, said MUI Deputy Chairman Zainut Tauhid Saadi on Tuesday. Zulhasan statement reaped protests from various parties, especially from the factions in the House of Representatives (DPR), as they did not want to be accused of being pro-LGBT.

Meanwhile, the case of gay party involving a minor in Cianjur, West Java sparked concern and alarm in the society. The teenager joined an online gay prostitution on Facebook which he thought an educational group. 

"The latest trend shows that child exploitation spraed easily through social media," Commissioner of Trafficking and Exploitation Division of Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI), Ai Maryati, said on Thursday.
