REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Committee on the Revision of the Criminal Code (RUU KUHP) has discussed the possibility to prosecute lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) individuals who meet criminal elements to a maximum nine years imprisonment. Member of the Committee, Nasir Djamil said the term of punishment of same-sex relations between adults is still being discussed.
In the draft proposed by the government, nine years term was to criminalize same-sex relations among adult with a minor. Meanwhile, the punishment against adult in public was 1.5 years imprisonment.
However, the sentence was considered unfair, according to the Committe. There was a discourse to impose nine years imprisonment for same-sex relations between adult. "And the charge against same-sex relations of an adult with a minor must be heavier, for example 18 years," Nasir said to Republika.co.id on Wednesday (Feb 14).
Nasir asserted children who become victims of sexual crime will have trauma. It could also affect their future. "Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) will propose heavier penalty against child abuse perpetrators, especially related to LGBT, Nasir added.
