Two passangers killed after KM Bahari ship sinks

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANJUNGPINANG -- Passenger ship "KM Bahari" sank in the waters of Selinu Island, Natuna District, Riau Islands Province on Saturday, resulting in the death of two passengers, a rescuer said.

"We haven't yet ascertained the exact number of passengers in the ship," the head of the Tanjungpinang Search and Rescue (SAR) office Abdul Hamid stated, adding that 49 of the ship's passengers had survived.

Until 6.00 p.m. Western Indonesia Standard Time (WIB) on Saturday, rescuers were still searching for three missing passengers, Abdul said.

According to him, the ill-fated ship sank around 6.00 a.m. on Saturday, and the SAR team was only informed about the sinking ship at 9.00 p.m. WIB.

Abdul further said there was no immediate information regarding the cause of the accident.
