REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Deposit Insurance Institution (LPS) Anggito Abimanyu said that Indonesia is one of the largest consumer markets of halal products in the world that has great potential in the development of halal products industry. According to him, halal beyond labels is an inevitability to build a sustainable sharia economy.
Halal Beyond Label is a global halal lifestyle and industry concept that emphasizes that the meaning of 'halal' is much broader than just having a logo or certificate.
“Halal Beyond Labels should make us a real agenda to build a sharia economy that is fair, inclusive, and brings benefits to the whole society,” said Anggito Abimanyu during his presentation at the Islamic Finance Dialogue (IFD) 2026 event at Energy Building, Jakarta, Wednesday (1/7/2026).
He stressed that Indonesia has a great market potential, a strong MSME player, competent academics, and a creative young generation. If all that power is channeled in a more integrated halal ecosystem, Indonesia will not only become the largest halal consumer, but also the world's halal producer and referrer.
However, he acknowledged, various challenges still arise, among them regarding all domestic affairs, processes, governance, institutional, as well as the cost of enforcing the label itself within the country. The problems of bureaucratic chains, limitations of auditors, to harmonization between agencies are still homework (PR) to be solved.
