Police searching for missing passanger of ill-fated motorboat

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Police are still searching for seven missing passengers and crew members of a motorboat KM Sahabat, which sank in the Java Sea on Tuesday.

The boat sank at 12.30 local time with 139 on board 22 miles off Jakarta's Tanjung Priok port, but only 132 had been evacuated.

Those still missing included four crewmen and four passengers, chief spokesman of the Jakarta Police Sr. Comr. Rikwanto said here on Wednesday.

Rikwanto said the police had sent two tugboats of state oil and gas company Pertamina from the Maruda port to help the evacuation.

The evacuation took place on Wednesday morning at around 01.30 - 03.30 local time.

Rikwanto said the survivors were accommodated at Hotel Pacenongan, and four sick passengers were treated at Tanjung Priok hospital.

Initial investigation showed that the boat carried 113 passengers, 26 crewmen and 42 units of motor vehicles.
