REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BENGKULU -- Police have questioned 35 witnesses in case of vandalism and torching of the Rimbo Pengadang police station in Bengkulu province.

"We will continue to investigate until we can name all the suspects in the anarchic act," Chief of Lebong District Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Zainul Arifin, said here on Tuesday.

A total of 129 personnel from the Police Mobile Brigade in Rejang Lebong were deployed to provide security during questioning.

"Until now, the security condition has remained conducive. They (the police personnel) are on standby," he said.

An angry mob had set fire to the police station, located about 120 km from the provincial capital of Bengkulu, on October 7 at around 10.00 p.m.

The arson happened after the police had detained two people suspected of gambling earlier in the day.

The mob protested against the detention and later set fire to a patrol car. The fire spread to the police station.

Nine people have been named suspects in the case of arson.
