Ministry of Religious Affairs donates Rp 1.8 billion for Alor churches renovation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG -- Ministry of Religious Affairs gave an aid of Rp 1.8 billion for East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The aid aimed to help churches renovation, which were damaged by an earthquake in early November 2015.

"In Christmas, we give Rp 1.8 billion to renovate churches that were heavily damaged by an earthquake in November 2015," said Minister of Religion Affairs, Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, in Kupang, Monday (28/12).

The aid was received directly by Regent of Alor, Amon Djobo. It was expected to help renovation of thousands of churches, which were collapsed due to earthquake.

Previously, hundreds of buildings, consisting of houses, schools, offices, and houses of worship, were severely damaged by an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude in Alor, NTT, Wednesday (4/11). Severe damage occurred in some villages in East Alor and South Kolana, such as East Tanglapui Village, Maritaing Taranama Village, Lantoka Village, Padang Alang Village, and Naumang Village.

The earthquake also resulted in landslides on the road that connected Kalabahi, the capital of Alor, with East Alor. A bridge on this road was reported collapsed.
