Police set 28 suspects of forest fires in Riau

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Police is still investigating the suspects of forest fires in Riau. Head of Data Information and Public Relation in National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said that about 28 people had been determined as suspects. Seven of them are investigated.

"The smog is getting thicker in Pekanbaru, Riau with visibility level of 200 meters," Purwonugroho said recently as reported by Andi Mohammad Ikhbal.

Forest fires in Riau happen as many companies opened new areas. Police are still investigating the cause of fire. The haze itself increasingly widespread and affecting people health.

The smoke haze from forests fires in Riau are getting thicker despite the intensity of light rain in some areas. It is causing the wind blowing thick fog. Purwonugroho added that it was rain in Mandau, Kuansing, Pelalawan, Rohul and Siak with wind speeds up to seven knots from the north of Pekanbaru.

Air quality in Pekanbaru is unhealthy or about 170 psi. Meanwhile, value of ISPU in northern regions, such as Dumai and Duri is in dangerous level or exceeds 500 psi. Many hotspots are in plantation areas.
