REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Lt. Gen. Suharyanto said that until Saturday (August 15, 2026) at 15:00pm, 38 people died as a result of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake centered in Nagekeo Regency in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“The death toll up to 3 p.m. today was recorded as 38 people died,” Suharyanto told an online news conference in Jakarta on Saturday.

Meanwhile, two people suffered serious injuries and 11 others had minor injuries. In addition, there were more or less two thousand people who were independently displaced. It also noted that there were several roads that were landslide as a result of the earthquake, dozens of residents' houses were heavily damaged, moderately damaged and lightly damaged.

For health facilities, recorded one hospital in Maumere, suffered damage and many health centers were damaged. “Mr. Health Minister also informed that many health centers were damaged, only one hospital was damaged, which is in Maumere,” Suharyanto said.

Meanwhile, five airports were affected by the earthquake. “There were five airports affected, but not runaways. Those affected are damaged, whether they enter lightly damaged, moderately damaged or heavily damaged, there are five in the terminal building,” he said.
