Indonesian Navy to sink 12 foreign ships

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Navy with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) will sink 12 foreign fishing ships on Tuesday (18/8).

"A total of 12 foreign ships were caught by the Navy," said Chief of Navy Information Office (Kadispenal) First Admiral TNI M Zainudin in Jakarta, Saturday (15/8).

The 12 foreign fishing ships were KM Sudita 11 with Thailand flag, gross weight of 100 GT. Total crews were 12 people (seven Thais and five Indonesians) The ship was loaded with three tons of fishes without legal documents.

KM Camar Laut 01 with Thailand flag, gross weight of 112 GT. There were 13 Thai people in the ship. The ship brought mixed fishes without legal documents.

KM Thindo Mina 6 with Thailand flag, gross weight 103 GT. Number of crew were 13 people of Thailand. The ship was loaded with 700 kilograms of mixed fish without legal documents.

KM Laut Natuna 15 with Thailand flag, gross weight 105 GT. Number of crew were 17 Thai people. The ship was loaded with 350 kilograms of mixed fish without legal documents.

L/B Stonio 804 ship with Philippine flag, gross weight of 20 GT. Number of crew were four Philippine citizens, without legal documents.

L/B Luke VII ship with Philippine flag, gross weight of 16 GT. Number of crew were two. No load but without legal documents.

"The sinking of the ships will be carried out in three different places. There are in Lanal Tarempa, Lanal Rinai, and Lantamal Tarakan," said Zainudin.

He added that, from the 12 foreign fishing ships, there were four Thai-flagged ships, three Philippine-flagged ships, four Vietnam-flagged ships and one ship from Malaysia.  

"This is a decision that has received from the local court," he said.

On the same time, the KKP will also sink dozens of foreign fishing ships that were caught some times ago. On May 2015, there were 35 foreign ships were sunk.
