REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- The Eastern Fleet Command's Border Security Operation Task Force has been prepared to secure the Indonesia-Malaysia sea border.

The deputy commander of the task force, Col. Agung P.S., made the statement while opening a 'Visit, Board, Search and Seizure' (VBSS) exercise in the Java Sea on Monday.

The three-day field maneuver exercise involves KRI Ahmad Yani-351, KRI Kakap-811 and KRI Tombak-629 warships of the Eastern Fleet Command.

"The exercise is aimed at training the command's soldiers to improve their alertness in preventing any violation and crime in the sea territory bordering that of Malaysia," he said.

The VBSS exercise aboard KRI Ahmad Yani-351 was carried out, gaming a scenario of an escalation around the Karang Unarang waters in the Indonesia-Malaysia border, which (for the purpose of this exercise) is exploited by parties who have an interest to carry out their illegal activities such as illegal fishing, illegal entry and other violations.

After the VBSS exercise, KRI Ahmad Yani replenishes the force at sea with KRI Kakap-811 and carry out an exercise in response to an air security threat by deploying KRI Tombak-629.
