Navy arrests ship allegedly used for drugs transaction in Riau

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANJUNG PINANG -- Navy ship KAL Welang of the Western Fleet Quick Response (WFQR) Team of Naval Base IV/Tanjungpinang in Riau Province has arrested fishing ship KM Rejeki Bersama-1 on Monday, an official said.

Naval base chief Commodor S Irawan stated that the skipper of KM Rejeki Bersama-1 GT 264 has been identified by his initial as BS with 36 crew members.

"All the crew members are Indonesian citizens," Irawan said, adding that the ship owner is identified as BH with his address in Tanjung Balai Asahan.

The ship carrying 50 tons of fish and another cargo sailed from Natuna Island.

Apart from that, the security officer also found a bong and a package of drug that has allegedly been consumed.

Based on the evidence the ship was allegedly used for conducting drug transactions in the middle of the sea.

Results of the examination of documents showed that the ship crew did not have sailor books, violated the Shipping Act, and the ships was neither equipped with a daily journal thus violating the Shipping Law.

Another violation is that the certificate of expert of Nautical Fishing Boat carried by the skipper was allegedly fake, because the ship captain only finished an elementary school.
