REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar said he is preparing a special surprise for the regional elections (local elections) of East Java (Jatim).

He said that at the moment the CLA is concentrating on carrying out the selection, tracing the track record, until determining the figures who will be the future candidates for the regional head. “Well, especially East Java, there will be surprises but they are still ripe,” said a man known as Cak Imin in Jakarta on Tuesday.

So far, he said many have signed up to be candidates for regional head. However, he said, the names of the people who signed up could not yet be announced. According to him, the PKB does not close itself to anyone who will register as a candidate for regional head. Including, according to him, the figure of Khofifah Indar Parawansa, who was previously the Governor of East Java.

“Whoever signs up, we can't discriminate. Even political opponents can,” he said. Even so, according to him, Khofifah has not registered to become a candidate for regional head through the PKB. He made sure that the CLA would open registration until the last minute. In addition, he is also reluctant to comment further on Anies Baswedan's participation in the 2024 election contest.

According to him Anies had stated that would undergo a short break from political affairs. “He always said pause first, pause first, yeah we'll just wait,” she said.

Earlier on Monday (29/4), Muhaimin had time to nominate Khofifah Indar Parawansa, for simultaneous local elections (local elections) in East Java province in November 2024.
