REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TANGERANG - A used airplane has exploded and injured two employees at the PT Garuda Maintenance Facility's hangar in the Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Banten province, according to police.

"Confirmed. A used airplane blasted and injured two employees in a hangar," police precinct chief of the Soekarno-Hatta airport, Senior Commissioner CH Pattopoi stated on Sunday.

The two injured employees were then immediately taken to the Tangerang's public hospital for treatments. Jamari then passed away while receiving medical treatment.

The airplane was operated by Sriwijaya Air until it was unused then parked at the airport. According to the police, the used airplane exploded when Wanto and Jamari were cutting the plane's tail. Suddenly, the airplane's rear part caught fire and blasted in a second.

Pattopoi said the cutting acts at the plane's tail which allegedly still contained fuels had led to an explosion. However, Pattopoi added the police would investigate other causes in addition to questioning some witnesses.

According to a nurse at the Tangerang's Public Hospital, Wanto underwent an operation to help him breath and Jamari suffered serious injuries and broke his left leg.
