Jokowi urged to fulfill his promise on Palestine

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM - The National Committee for Palestinian People (KNRP) would urge President-elect Joko Widodo, better known as Jokowi, to fulfill his promise about working towards the independence of Palestine, KNRP spokesman Achmad Muchlis noted.

Muchlis remarked on Friday that during his election campaign, Jokowi had hinted at working towards achieving Palestinian independence, and therefore, the KNRP will urge him to fulfill the promise. He stated that during his election campaign held in West Kalimantan in June 2014, Jokowi had also promised to set up an Indonesian embassy in Palestine if he was elected president.

"Now that Jokowi has been elected as the president, we will urge him to keep his promise to help the people of Palestine," Muchlis noted.

Referring to Indonesia's Constitution, which stated that independence was the right of all nations, Jokowi had remarked that the opening of an Indonesian embassy in Palestine will be a show of solidarity for a free Palestine.

 

He pointed out that the West Nusa Tenggara branch of KNRP along with other community agencies concerning about the fate of Gazans, had channeled assistance worth 17.5 billion IDR to Palestine.
