REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of Democratic Party, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, officially announced that the party became opposition party on Sunday evening, May 18, 2014. Democratic Party is the current ruling party but suffered defeat during the latest general election on April 9, 2014.

"Our leaders' national convention decides that Democratic Party takes no side towards any presidential candidate, neither Jokowi (Joko Widodo) nor Prabowo (Prabowo Subianto)," Yudhoyono said during a press briefing, then he received applause from the party's cadres.

Yet, Yudhoyono underlined that the party's cadres would not be abstained in the presidential election in July this year. The cadres will vote the candidate whose political platform complies with Democratic Party's.
