REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SAMARINDA - Regional Government of Samarinda, East Kalimantan, will ban any motor vehicle on the way to the offices for civil servants including its senior official. The government ask them to use bicycles instead, on the first Friday every month.
"Once in a month which falls on every first Friday, all civil servants are obliged to use bicycles on their way to the offices. I have signed the regulation and hopefully it can be effective starting in March," Mayor of Samarinda, Syaharie Jaang, said on Thursday.
Jaang said that he would give a good example to all civil servants.
"Next Friday, i will go to my office by bicycle. Not only we can save the gas use, bicycling is also environmentally friendly. At least, we can reduce the traffic jam during that day," the mayor said.
