REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chief of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Insp Gen Putut Eko Bayuseno said crime rates during Eid al-Fitr 2013 fell by 50 percent compared to Eid in the previous year.

"The crime rates in Eid 2012 in Jakarta was high. For exampe, burglary cases in empty houses occured 113 times in 2012, then declined to 60 times this year," Bayuseno said on Monday.

Custody in empty houses is the main focus of police since the number of crimes in empty houses places the highest rank based on police data. Police said that a team specialized in stealing in empty house used special crowbar during their action. Bayuseno said it was important to remain vigilant and cautious when people left their houses empty.
