Indonesian fashion designer Ramli passes away

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - After fighting colon cancer, Indonesian famous fashion designer Ramli passed away on Wednesday at 06:50 Western Indonesian Times at Gading Pluit Hospital, North Jakarta. He is buried in Maleber, Kuningan, Cirebon.

Ramli has been hospitalized since two weeks ago. His initial plan for visiting the hospital was for chemotherapy, but his condition was getting worse. Ramli suffered coma since January 17.

Ramli died at his 58, leaving a foster child. His latest fashion show entitled "37 Years of Ramli's Work" was held in November 21, 2012 when he was sick.

Ramli's close friend, Mien R Uno, said Ramli once told him that he wanted to work for 40 years. While being sick, he still wanted to work. 

"He is very professional. His customers are his best friends," Uno said on Wednesday while visiting Ramli's mourning house.

The first lady Ani Yudhoyono also visited the house on Wednesday.  As a fan of Ramli's work, Ani said Indonesia had lost one of its best designers.

During his life, Ramli had promoted Indonesian embroidery to the world. Ani hopes Ramli can insipre others to follow his track.
