Indonesia helds batik exhibition in Italy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON - Indonesian Embassy to Rome and Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy held batik exhibition in Rome to celebrate the 67th National Day of Indonesia. The event “entitled Wonderful Indonesia: A Kaleidoscope of Indonesian Heritage” was aimed to introduce Indonesian batik and weaving and get the market in Italy and Europe.

Two Indonesian prominent designers, Chossy Latu and Carmanita, presented their classic and contemporary artworks. The fashion show was combined uniquely with cultural performance from Bali, Betawi, West Sumatra, and West Java and mini exhibition of Indonesian products, such as coffee and cocoa.

Traditional music that strengthen Indonesian ambience also entertained the visitors. The visitors could also learn how to make batik.

Chossy Latu has consistently used weaving fabric in her classic, simple, and wearable design, while Carmanita prefers to use contemporary design which is inspired by nature.

As an effort to enter Italian and European market, Indonesia cooperated with International Academy for Haute Couture and Art of Costume Koefia in Rome. The Chargé d'Affaire ad interim of Indonesian Embassy to Rome, Priyo Iswanto, said the cooperation was expected to promote Indonesian batik and weaving.
