REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Professor of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Masykuri Abdillah, raises issue on quality and professionalism of ulamas. "It is the qualification of ulama that should be certified," he said.
His meeting with National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) last year focused on the improvement of professionalism of ulama because Indonesia was the only country in the world which had not had quality assurance of religious discourse content. Lacking of quality has causes a wide range of discourses among society, ranging from moderate to radical. To avoid the seeds of radicalism to spread, he continued, discourse must come from competent people.
While an activist from Moderate Muslim Society (MMS) Hasibullah Satrawi underlined the importance of building partnership between government and ulamas to work towards de-radicalization and preventing terrorism. BNPT must focus their works on collaboration with ulamas instead of creating the issue of certification for ulamas.
“Otherwise, blunder would be plausible,” Satrawi said on Tueday.
He cited an example of de-radicalization program in Egypt. The program used direct approach towards radical groups.
