Rescue team digs the bottom of ravine

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Rescue team continuously comb carefully the cliff of Mount Salak to find the victims of Sukhoi Superjet 100 crash and black box. “The team dig the bottom of the ravine to find the bodies buried by debris of the plane and soil,” the Operational Head of National SAR, Sumartono, said on Monday.

The team uses spliced rope to climb down 500 meter ravine. The tail of the plane might fall to the ravine after the plane hit the top of the cliff. Then it was buried by the soil. “The black box is usually placed in the tail,” he said.

Jungle terrain, the cliff, and the digging pose a challenge for the rescue team. Sumartono added, the evacuation of the victims was the main priority.

As an effort to speed up the evacuation, the helipad in Mount Salak is widen. Thus, more than a plane can land to evacuate the victims. By Monday morning, the team has evacuated 25 bags, along with three of them are some stuffs belong to the victims.
