REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Sukhoi’s black box was found blackened and burnt down, around 100 meters from the wreckage of the tail on Tuesday. “Originally it was orange in color but it was blackened after it was burnt down,” military local command, Colonel AM Putranto in Cijeruk, Bogor, West Java.   

The black box was found half buried after splitting from the plane’s tail. “We found the black box not far from the location we had found ELT. Then we made sure that the ELT was not the black box we sought for, then we focused to the nearby area,” he said.  

Investigator from National Transportation Safety Board (KNKT), captain Khaeruddin, then declare the box was Sukhoi’s black box. He also assured that the recorded data was still in function and useable for further investigation.  

“Yes, black box is usually durable from any explosion,” he said then added that the investigation and examination on the black box would be conducted in Indonesia.
