'Solo Dancing 24 Hours' to draw 2,500 dancers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SOLO – About 2,500 people from 45 art groups will dance nonstop for 24 hours in the event Solo Menari 24 Jam or Solo Dancing 24 Hours. The big event will be held in Solo, Central Java, on Sunday, April 29. The dancers come from domestic and international.

“Eleven places are prepared to hold the event,” Dwi Wahyudiarto, one of the initiators of the event, said on Wednesday,

The educational institutions and art galleries from Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta, Banyumas, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and other regions also participate.

“With this event, we want to show that dance can blend in everywhere,” he said.

The eleven places holding the event are Ngarsopuro, Solo Square, the yard of Solo Grand Mall, Solo Paragon, the house of Loji Gandrung Mayor, Plaza Sriwedari, and five places in Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI). The opening of Solo Menari 24 Jam will be marked by the carnival of 50 people dancing on top of pedicabs from Loji Gandrung to Gladag. The board also invites people to dance together. 

“They will not only see the event, but they can also participate,” he said.
