REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Jakarta Police Department will protect several gas stations in the capital city. It is a part of preventive measures in case some protests turn violent and destructive.

Police spokesman, Rikwantom said 10-15 police personnel would be deployed to protect each gas station. Nevertheless, he did not elaborate the number of protected gas stations.

"The protective measures are taken based on the route of the protests, as some may pass some gas stations," he said.

Rikwanto said the protests usually chose the crowded streets. The more crowded, the more people watch the protests so that was the aim of their action.

“The goal of the protest is to be seen by as many people as possible,” he said.

Police will also protect some streets in Jakarta and its vicinity. According to the data in police department, Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi (Jadetabek) have 540 gas stations. All of them will be protected when necessary. "But it is situational and depends on the route of the protesters," he said.
