Tjahjo says no political party asks regional head to corrupt

Several regional heads have became suspects in corruption case.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo said there was no political party that asked regional heads to corrupt. His statement came to comment on the fact that many regional heads and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) members involved in graft cases.

“Actually, it was an individual act, not a request from political parties,” Tjahjo said on Monday (Nov 12).

Tjahjo said regional budget discussion could lead to corruption if there were DPRD members who put pressure against regional head. However, it was not a request from political party. He suggested between regional head and DPRD member to discuss it carefully.

“Because regional head is supported by political party and DPRD is the extension of the political parties that also supported regional head until he/she elected,” Tjahjo explained.

Ministry of Home Affairs has provided understanding and training including efforts to prevent corruption, including to regional heads and DPRD. According to Tjahjo, the ministry has reminded areas that prone to corruption, also about  budget planning, grants and social assistance, local taxes and levies, procurement of goods and services, and buying and selling positions and official travel.

Tjahjo asked all of his staff at Ministry of Home Affairs and regional governments to prevent corruption potential. He stressed do not be bored to remind each other regarding areas prone to corruption.
