REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Consulate General of Indonesia (KJRI) to Jeddah has helped the repatriation of an Indonesian named Karimah bint Muhammad Bahar. She suffered from head infection in Saudi Arabia, according to a press release said here on Thursday.

Karimah who is a 12-year-old girl, was previously treated at Al Wiladah Al Atfal Hospital in Mecca since Nov 24, 2017. She was hospitalized due to fluid coming out of her head and causing an infection that interfered with her vision.

The KJRI of Jeddah came to know about the girl's condition through a letter of complaint sent to the KJRI in Jeddah on Feb 5, 2018, by a non-governmental organization (NGO).

KJRI directly deployed the Indonesian service and protection team to the hospital and asked for the public relations section to be allowed to visit Karimah.

The protection team of KJRI of Jeddah also met Karimah's mother to convey the effort to help ease the burden of expenses to the administration of the hospital and her return to Indonesia.

Karimah underwent surgery on March 2, 2018. She re-entered the hospital on March 19, 2018, and was hospitalized until April 26, 2018.

Furthermore, Karimah, her mother, and sibling were picked up by the KJRI in Jeddah and lodged at a "shelter" while waiting for the exit permit from Saudi Arabia's immigration and the administrative section of the hospital.

The protection team of KJRI in Jeddah tried to approach the hospital and applied for exempting Karimah from paying the expenses for the treatment. The plea was accepted by the hospital.

Then, the KJRI in Jeddah ordered two teams of officers to make an agreement to provide easy exit permit arrangements for Karimah, her mother, and sibling due to their illegal status and exemption from immigration fines to Saudi Arabia's immigration.

Karimah and her family were flown on Wednesday evening (May 2) to Indonesia and were scheduled to arrive in Jakarta on Thursday (May 3).
