REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEDAN -- Mount Sinabung in Karo District, North Sumatra, erupted again at 3.58 p.m on Sunday, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) said.
The eruption lasted for eight minutes, Head of BNPB's Information Data Center Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said in short text message.
He said the eruption caused the volcano to send a cloud of smoke up to 4,000 meters into the sky in the southerly and southwesterly directions.
The volcano also spewed hot clouds which spread in 1.2-km radius, he said.
But the hot clouds claimed no lives as residents who lived in 3-km radius had been evacuated to safer areas, he said.
"All the evacuees are safe," he said.
According to the Volcanic and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), the volcano erupted five times on Sunday.
