REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Secretary General of Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) Anwar Abba has called on the public to reduce the use of US dollars for international transactions to press US President Donald Trump to withdraw his policy recognizing Jerusalem as Israeli capital.

"If Donald Trump does not pull himself away from the Jerusalem issue, we need to gradually abandon the use of US dollars for transactions. We need to press (the US) without gunfire," he said at the MUI building here on Tuesday.

One of the steps to press the US is refraining from the use of US dollars for international transactions, he said.

Citing an example, he said Indonesia and Malaysia can conduct transactions using their respective currencies without using US dollar, he said.

Pressing the US without using US dollars is an excellent step. Slowly but surely, the US economy will come under pressure.

due to low demand for US dollars.

As such, Trump will receive many pressures from many parties at home and abroad, he said.

If Trump comes under constant pressure at home, the US people can impeach him for being unsatisfied with his leadership, he said.

"If that is the case, he will receive strong domestic pressure or will be impeached," he said.
