REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Political social observer at Jakarta State University (UNJ), Ubedilah Badrun said former Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gatot Nurmayanto and West Nusa Tenggara Governor, M Zainul Majdi or usually called Tuan Guru Bajang (TGB) have great chance to win 2019 presidential election if they are in pairs. He said as sociologically, both of them have big potential to be state leaders.

"Sociologically, they both have great potential to become president and vice president. There is a chance to win the battle with notes their supporting political parties to work hard," said Ubedilah on Wednesday (March 7).

Ubedilah said Gatot has social capability for Javanese people, also his military network and among santri (students of Islamic boarding schools) elements. Meanwhile, TGB also has capability to mingle among santri elements and also for East Indonesia people.

Moreover, Ubedilah said the pairs can be alternative candidate for 2019 presidential election. He stressed it although Gatot is no longer young from his age. According to him, the ideal age for presidential candidate is between 40 to 50 years old.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI) Priyo Budi Santoso predicted there are three scenarios in the 2019 presidential election. Firstly a repetition of the 2014 presidential election with two candidates - Jokowi against Prabowo Subianto; secondly the possibility of a third contestant supported by Democratic party, PKB and PAN, a scenario which would be good for democracy and the third, Jokowi to team up with Prabowo, a scenario that may lead to single candidate contest.

Priyo suggested that Jokowi pick up a non-partisan for his running mate in the 2019's presidential election. He saw some potential names suitable to pair with the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) presidential candidate.

"There are other potential names, who are economist and Islamist, deserving to be considered. There are Jimly Asshiddiqie, Din Syamsudin and Mahfud MD, who do not belong to any political parties but have advantage of being Islamist," Priyo said here on Wednesday.
