Papua police confirm attack on mobile brigade personnel

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- The Papua Police confirmed that four Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel suffered injuries following an attack when they were moving body of the dead First Brigadier Berry Pratama in Banti 1 Village, Tembagapura, at 6 a.m. local time, Monday.

"The armed group shot at the Brimob personnel when they were moving the body of First Brigadier Berry," a spokesman of Papua Police Senior Commissioner Ahmad Kamal said.

The four personnel from Detachment B Timika are Second Police Inspector Giay, Second Brigadier Hence, Second Brigadier Mario, and Second Sub-Inspector Mustari.

They are being treated at the Freeport Hospital in Tembagapura District.

Kamal confirmed that the shooting was carried out by an armed group led by Sabinus Waker.

Earlier on Saturday, the armed group had attacked a convoy of PT Freeport vehicles at 8:10 a.m. local time around 67.5 miles from Tembagapura, and a driver Muhamad Jamil was wounded.

On Saturday afternoon, two Brimob personnel were shot, and on Sunday, Pratama was shot dead.
