General Nurmantyo has travel documents: Indonesian military

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Head of Information Center of the Indonesian Military, Mayor General Wuryanto, said the Indonesian Military Commander, General Gatot Nurmantyo, has fulfilled all the requirements and had all the travel documents needed for going to the USA.

Nurmantyo has got the visa to enter the USA to attend the Chiefs of Defense Conference on Country Violent Extremist Organization (VEOs) in Washington DC, according to Wuryanto in a press conference here, on Sunday.

Wuryanto added Nurmantyo has visited the USA for several times and has never had any problems. The last visit to the USA done by General Nurmantyo was in February 2016.

The Indonesian Military Commander is invited by the US Chairman of the Joint Chief, Marine General Francis Dunford Jr. to attend the conference held in 23-24 October 2017.

Nurmantyo planned to board an Emirates Airline plane on Saturday (Oct 21) when the officer told the general that the US Custom and Border Protection has forbidden him to enter the USA.

"The General has prepared to check in," Wuryanto said.

The Indonesian Military is awaiting information relating to the incident from the US government.

Nurmantyo, Wuryanto said, has reported the incident to President Joko Widodo, Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi and Coordinating Minister for Politics, Laws and Security Wiranto.

General Nurmantyo has also sent a message to General Joseph F Durfort Jr.

Additionally, the Foreign Affairs Ministry has asked the US Government for clarification following the incident.

The Indonesian Embassy in Washington DC has sent a diplomatic note to the US Department of State.
