REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAYAPURA -- The health office of Merauke District, Papua Province, has deployed a medical team in Kimaam Sub-district, where a diarrhea outbreak has infected over one hundred babies.

"We have sent a medical team to Kimaam to tackle the diarrhea outbreak there," Dr Adolof Bolang, head of the Merauke health office, said here, Saturday.

The team comprises a doctor, several nurses, and five staff members of the Merauke health office.

"According to the latest report, the condition of diarrhea patients in Kimaam has begun to stabilize," he revealed.

Some 130 infants have been infected with diarrhea and taken to the local community health post for medical treatment.

According to another report, diarrhea has affected some 200 babies in 14 kampongs in Kimaam.

The local health post's paramedics have given medical treatment to infants in seven kampongs, while the seven other kampongs are still not accessible due to the difficult terrain of Papua, Indonesia's eastern most province.
