REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Coordinator Minister for Political, Legal and Security (Menkopolhukam), Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, said that his team is currently reviewing the establishment of a cyber army which specifically deal with cyber attacks.

"It could happen (the formation of a cyber army). We are awaiting the team’s report team at the end of next month (late September 2015)," he said, in Kemenkopolhukam, Jakarta.

According to him, the existence of specialized agency which deal with cyber issues is needed. It was because every day Indonesia faces cyber attacks with a high intensity.

Therefore, the government has formed a special team to review the cyber agency and cyber army and the team will report the results in late September 2015 or early October 2015.

"The results of the team's work will be reported in late September or early October. We will see the results, it could be in form of cyber army or national cyber agency," he added.

In the establishment of a cyber agency, he stated that Menkopolhukam is in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and Information, Rudiantara. Luhut realized that Indonesian military has had a special division handling cyber attacks.

However, he said, the government wanted an agency that is in a coordination and not fragmented. "We want a coordinated agency, do not be fragmented in order to survive if there is a simultaneous attack," he explained.

Menkopolhukam also emphasized the national cyber agency would not be used as a tool of the government to spy on people. "The government will not spy on its own citizens. It is only to anticipate cyber attacks, to prevent the state information system," he said.
