Indonesian students win Intel award

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Three Indonesian student teams won the world's greatest award in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair. The award was in the category of Mathematics, Material Science and Chemistry.

Related about these achievements, Minister of Education and Culture (Mendikbud) Anies Baswedan also praised the achievement. "We are very appreciate it, I hope the impact of this program can produce future leaders (in science)," said Anies during the visit of Indonesian students who joined the competition 'Intel International Science and Engineering Fair' in his office, on Monday, May 18.

The first teams of Indonesian students are the students who came from Bali, I Dewa Gede Ary Palguna and I Kadek Sudiarsana. Both students of SMAN Bali Mandara, Singaraja, Bali, got fourth winner in the category of scientific work. Their scientific work entitled 'Motifs Development of Grinsing Sarong'.

This international awards also received by Indonesian student from Surakarta, Central Java. Luca Cada Lora and Galih Ramadhan got fourth winner in category of materials science. SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta got award from their scientific work entitled 'Packed VolcASH: An Inorganic Nature of Heavy Metal Absorbent'.

Beside Bali and Surakarta, students from Pontianak were also contributing on that world arena. The representatives of SMA Katolik Gembala Baik, Pontianak, West Kalimantan got Honorable Mention Certificate (Honorable Mention) award.

They managed to carve an award in the category of Chemistry in scientific work entitled 'Bagasse-Based Activities Carbon as Effective for Heavy Metal Contamination from Industrial avtivities (Case Study: Gold Mining Area in Mandor River, West Kalimantan).

"Intel believes that young people are the key to future innovation and in order to face global challenges in the future," said Corporate Affairs Director Intel Corporation, Deva Rachman through a press release.
