REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Police Criminal (Bareskrim) Investigator have arrested Novel Baswedan on Friday, May 1, morning. Head of News and Publication of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Priharsa Nugraha, confirmed the arrest of the anti-corruption agency investigator.

"Earlier there was a short message from Novel that mention him arrested," he said via instant message, Friday, May 1, morning.

According Priharsa, information about Novel's arrest was quite surprising for KPK leaders. Currently KPK leaders are trying to inquire and coordinating with the Police.

In a brief message from Novel, said Priharsa, he informed that he was arrested and asked him to report that to KPK leaders. "Today I was arrested by Bareskrim. Please be notified that to the Chief," said Priharsa citing Novel short message.

Meanwhile, Tasks executive (Plh) Deputy Chairman of KPK Johan Budi admitted to still ensure the correctness of the information. KPK leaders so far have not decided the arrest Novel related information. "I'm looking for information about the truth, whether is it true or not," he said when confirmed, Friday, May 1, morning.

Previously, Novel has never been suspected to have connection with the murder while serving as Chief of Police Criminal Investigation for Bengkulu Unit. Novel allegedly involved in cases of police violence against the perpetrators of the theft of bird nest in Bengkulu.

The case was discontinued since 2012 on the orders of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the time, but the police make further investigations warrant dated on February 17, 2015. The case in 2004 was raised again in 2012 when Novel became chief investigator in the case of driver's license (SIM) simulator that involved Irjen Djoko Susilo.
